  • Methods and Approaches

    • This lecture provides a historical, theoretical, and pedagogical overview of the major methods and approaches that have shaped English Language Teaching (ELT) in Algeria. It traces the evolution of teaching practices from the classical Grammar-Translation Method to more learner-cantered approaches such as the Direct Method, the Structural Approach, the Communicative Approach, and finally the Competency-Based Approach (CBA).

The lecture situates these methodologies within both global ELT developments and the Algerian educational context, highlighting how each method reflects specific views about language, learning, and the role of the teacher and learner.

  • Communicative Language Testing

    • This lecture introduces the concept of Communicative Language Testing (CLT) and explains its importance in modern language education. Communicative language testing aims to measure learners’ ability to use the target language effectively in real-life situations rather than simply testing their knowledge of grammar rules or vocabulary items.
