Description

These are the most important points of this chapter that you need to know.

1. What is a study place?

It is a place where students select to study in. In other words, it is a place that will motivate, enrich, and draw the focus and productivity of students. The kind of studies that is meant here can be revisions, projects, exam preparations, assignments...

2. What are the places that can be study places?

There are a variety of choices. A place can be inside a house like a bedroom, a living room, or a kitchen. While it can also be outside the house, like in coffee shops, gardens or libraries...

3. How to select a place among the various choices?

Choosing a place requires looking at some essential criteria in a place. These criteria are characterized by:

  • a place free from distraction
  • A place with common standards
  • a place with personal preferences.

3.1. What is distraction?

Distraction is any form of disturbance in a place which would eventually stop you from studying. It can be a phone call, a noise, people coming to your place, or a disturbing view. A distraction can be different for one person to another. For instance, a noise can represent a distraction for one person and it can be something that does not prevent another person from studying.

3.2. What are the common standards for a study place?

The common standards are represented in factors or common conditions that every study place should have. There are necessities that without them, it would be difficult for that place to be convenient for studying. For instance, the common standards are:

  • A well lit area: Light is very important in a study area.
  • A comfortable place: It is necessary to have comfortable seats and also a pleasant atmosphere (not cold and not hot).
  • Materials: to study, materials need to be available, such as books, handouts, laptops, internet...
  • Accessible site: The place should be accessible, especially when the student needs to study.

3.3. What are the personal preferences?

Each student is different from another. Therefore, when selecting a place students should look at their preferences (How they would like their study place to look like?). They could review their learning style (VAK) and their personality traits to be able to know their inclination.

4. Evaluation of ones space

If students want to know if their actual space is convenient, they need to look up at the factors stated earlier, and see if their place need minor changes or they need to completely change their spot.
