These points are crucial elements to keep in mind.
1. What is time management?
Time management refers to the way students should organize their time and make it efficient. It also help them avoid procrastination and waste their time in unnecessary tasks.
1.1. What is procrastination?
Procrastination, is when you keep delaying an important task to the last minute.
2. How can students manage their time?
Students should first be aware of their time and its value in their lives. After that they are required to follow some important steps:
- Setting goals
- Prioritizing tasks
- Planning and organising.
2.1. Setting goals
The first step of time management is setting goals. There two types of goals (short and long).
- Short term goal: Students should have on a daily or weekly basis some goals that needs to be achieved.
- Long term goals: additionally, students should also set some far away goals such as getting their diploma.
When students have a goal in their lives they are more likely going to work and manage time for it. On the other side, students who have no goals, have no attention of time management because they have no purpose in life.
2.2. Priortization
There are different tasks or goals that needs to be achieved. These goals needa to be classified from important to non-important, and from urgent to non-urgent. Therefore, prioritization is a very essential step in time management. One example that can help is the Eisenhower matrix (you can check that in the lecture).
2.3. Planning and organisation
Organisation is a very essential tool which can help you manage your time. It can be when organising your thoughts or your physical space. For instance, when your desk is well organised, it is easy to find your stuff, which saves you time from looking at it.
Also, planning, is part of the job of time management, as it is the final step. Planning can be in different forms, such as: setting timetables, diaries, or a recorder.
