The relationships between philosophical and sociological sciences

Completion requirements

Dear L1 students, Section2, find in the attached file lecture four entitled "The relationships between philosophical and sociological sciences "

"The relationships between philosophical and sociological sciences "

The relationship between philosophical and sociological sciences is interconnected but distinct. Philosophy addresses fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, ethics, and reason, providing abstract concepts and foundational principles that influence various fields, including social sciences. Sociology, on the other hand, focuses on the empirical study of human society, social relationships, institutions, and social change through scientific methods. Philosophical ideas serve as the theoretical basis for sociological thought, shaping questions about human nature, morality, and society. Conversely, sociology applies empirical research to explore these concepts in real-world contexts. Together, both disciplines enhance our understanding of human behavior—philosophy through reflection and reasoning, sociology through observation and analysis.

Course Objectives:

1. Examine the historical and conceptual relationship between philosophical and sociological sciences.

2. Understand how philosophical ideas influence the development of sociological theories.

3. Explore the role of philosophical inquiry in shaping sociological research and perspectives.

4. Analyze key philosophical concepts that underpin sociological explanations of society.

5. Critically evaluate the interplay between abstract philosophical principles and empirical sociological methods.

6. Foster an appreciation for the interdisciplinary nature of social sciences in understanding human society.
