Exercise 1:
Give five sentences using adjectives as subject complements.
Exercise 2:
Rewrite these sentences, placing the adverbs or adverbial phrase at the beginning of the sentence, and making the necessary inversions.
1- I little realized that I was wrong.
2- I didn’t know that he had been ill until I visited him.
3- He had no sooner come home and it began to rain.
4- He should on no account tell her thank you.
5- I wouldn’t doubt his honesty for one moment.
6- He has rarely helped in sweeping the dusty furnishing.
7- You should never drink water directly after running.
8- He feels relief only when he tells the truth.
9- His waste of money was such that he resorted to ruining.
10- He has proved his know-how in very few cases.
Exercise 3:
Write each of these sentences twice, placing the adverbs in two different positions so as to differ in meaning.
1- He stays some days in Egypt on his way to London. (also)
2- My father managed to take us on holidays before the restart working. (just)
3- He likes eating ice-cream in winter. (only)
4- He has time to come if he wants. (still)
5- He had the courage to apologize. (at least)
6- I will go to ask him about that. (personally)
7- I recognize her talent in writing poems. (well)
8- He thinks that he works better when he gets up early. (really)
