Lecture Three/Part one
Within the field of sociolinguistics, the current entitled lecture “Discourse Analysis” is designed to M1 /LS students. Its main objective is to have a familiarity with this concept in a sociolinguistic context and understand the main approaches employed to investigate it. It is extracted in the form of passages from Janet Holmes’ book (2013): “An Introduction to Sociolinguistics”.
Unlike the previous lectures such as language and gender and language and age…etc where the focus was on language variation according to users, this lecture constitutes a move towards language variation according to uses. It is supported with examples and an exercise (extracted from the same above- mentioned source) to help the students understand the lecture and the main approaches involved in analyzing discourse.
