The course aims at:
- Developing writing skills and abilities in the scientific context.
- Enhancing their reading skills to authentic disciplinary materials.
- Promoting their understanding of the scientific style in academic writing.
- Demonstrating the writing process and its different steps.
- Practising summarising and paraphrasing strategies in writing.
- Enhancing their oral skill through oral presentations.
1. Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
- Recognise the scientific style in academic writing.
- Use appropriate tenses and grammar related to the scientific writing.
- Follow the writing process steps in their writing.
- Applying effective paraphrasing and summarising strategies and citing techniques.
- Demonstrating the IMRAD structure in scientific writing.
- Dealing with other sections in research writing ( abstract, literature review…)

Writing and communication skills are among the necessary skills for scientific researchers. Further, the present course aims to encourage students to learn how to communicate the findings of their research and investigations more effectively and expedite the publication of their manuscript. Students have already seen the fundamentals of scientific writing in semester one and they are supposed to be able to produce a good essay with well-written paragraphs. This course will go further to other details in the IMRAD structure in addition to other different sections of writing. This may be summarised in the following points: abstract, acknowledgment, statistical results, and referencing styles.

This course is an introduction to scientific writing that is highly important to know for students of science in general and students of chemistry in particular. It gives you an overview of the structure followed in writing papers, master theses, and PhD dissertations. In addition to that. it deals with the language used in each section of the IMRAD structure as well as other sections.

Step 1: give a map of different ideas that you build to define your field of study in which you include different titles related to its definition.
Step 2: develop these titles in paragraphs from your style.

The present test is a summative assessment that aims to evaluate what you learned during the first semester on the one hand and to prepare you for the final exam on the other hand. Questions are direct and multiple-choice. Answers should be written in the specified box with the right spelling otherwise they are considered wrong. Only one attempt is allowed and you have only 30mn to complete the test. Check that you have well sent your test after finishing it. Good luck
